Feel Well, Do Well

What’s the trick for staying motivated? Well, the better you feel, the better you do. Here are some techniques I use to feel good as much as possible.
Schedule In Gratitude
Gratitude is not something that comes easily for most of us. We take for granted A LOT. That’s why you have to make it a conscious habit to remember to be grateful for things. For months I used to wake up every single morning, and for the first 5 minutes of the day I’d say out loud what I’m grateful for.
You get what you focus on. If you focus on all you have, you’ll get more of it. Here’s a fun challenge – create a list of 1000 things you’re grateful for. I did. It was amazing how easy it was to come up with over a 1000 things to be grateful for – most of which are taken for granted.
Break Limiting Metaphors
Listen to the metaphors people use. It’s usually a window into the images in their mind. If someone says I’m at the end of my rope, they are creating an image in their mind of that metaphor why they are saying it. Even if just for a split second. But it’s there. I don’t like to have limiting images in my mind at all.
I’m never at the end of my rope. I have a long rope. I never “burn the candle from both ends”. Instead, I “try to touch the sky’s ceiling…”. I’m not “drop dead exhausted”. I just need to “recharge my batteries”.
A casual use of metaphors is dangerous. Learn to identify the ones you use, and if those metaphors aren’t useful, don’t use them anymore.
Fall In Love With Opportunity
I don’t think you should always love what you do. In fact, some times you should hate what you do… but love the opportunities it will open up for you if you do it. Even a ditch digger has something to look forward to. Digging ditches takes care of supporting himself. That gives him the opportunity to use his spare time to cultivate new skills, so he can do more than just dig ditches.
Challenge gives you the opportunity to become more.
Every task you have to do – before doing it, link it to at least one juicy opportunity it will open up for you once you’re done with the task.
Live A More Congruent Lifestyle
I see a lot of people who want to be rich have, within themselves, conflicting views about wealth. That’s like driving a car with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. There are some issues to deal with when it comes to wealth. What is the difference between wealth and greed? What is the cost you pay to become wealthy?
These are things you have to deal with. And not bringing out all these challenge points, and coming up with congruent conclusions for them, as they relate to your identity, can be your down fall.
What is the mental image you have of yourself? Is it in congruence with the actions you take on a day to day basis? If not, you have to reconcile that, otherwise you’re always going to in conflict as you try to move toward your goals.

Jason,
We all definitely need more “Feel good – Do Well” days! It is about Positive Choice & Pro Action in pursuit of our top goals. We often complicate everything in our lives. We can START now & DO in the most Simple way/s possible and let the rest fall into place.
Blessings & more “Feel Good – Do Well” to all,
+Faith
Jason, I really appreciate your insight on this… sometimes you hear too much negative and otherwise too much Pollyana. Yours is just right, Thanks
There is a Biblical basis for “breaking metaphors”. The Bible says to be careful of the words you say. Personally, I think they open doors to demons… something we don’t talk about very often. Thanks for the reminder. I needed it – especially today. Deb
Hi Jason,
I see that you are still a student, as well as a teacher. That is great! We could all learn a lot from Jim Rohn and others like him.
Thanks for the reminder…
Trevor
Dang straight! FTW!
Great Post Jason..I believe that paying attention to our thoughts is a key to getting to really ‘know’ ourselves. .. just being aware of my mental images and their impact upon my life will help me to move forward. Now if I just had an action to help me deal..:)
Have a wonderful day
I think of Ford’s famous quip..’whether you think you can or think you can’t, your right either way!” Also, Lincoln’s “I figured out the best way to help the poor is not to be one of them.”
Cool post Jason!
Jason,
Your wisdom far exceeds your tender young age. Thank you for this uplifting post, it’s a big help for me and many others, I imagine.
Old habits are difficult to break, like remembering to replace positive statements when old negative mindsets come out of the cobwebs to slow us down.
The conflict is very real and must be dealt with in order to quit spinning our wheels…
Bless you,
Donna
Jason, let me add to the “Break Limiting Metaphors” suggestion.
I’ve known Zig Ziglar for many years. I’ll never forget the little gem I picked up at the first seminar of his I went to. It’s an affirmation that makes me feel good and also most of those who hear me say it – well at least they smile about it.
When someone asks how are you today, the best answer is, “Super good, but I’ll get better!”
It’s a great “Unlimiting Metaphor.” It works for me. Try it for a week and see what it does for you.
All the best to y’all,
Art
Great post, Jason.
You have such a deep understanding of yourself for a man so young. Thanks for reminding the rest of us to beware of getting stuck in the ‘future’ – instead, to be thankful today and every day for simply living.
Excellent post, Jason. I want to reinforce your first and fourth points in particular.
I started starting my day with a gratitude journal – it can be any notebook – I use a spiral one so it’s easy to write in. At first, I wasn’t sure what to write – I wanted to make it “perfect” (another holdup to success). But once I relaxed and just started writing down anything that comes to mind, it’s so easy. And yes, it’s okay to repeat gratitude for the same thing! Once I started gratitude, I found myself happier – and wealthier. Amazingly fast results.
On the other point – I see a lot of conflict in the Internet marketing world with people criticizing the “gurus” – those people who have already reached a level of success and are now sharing their information with others. Yet, the very people who are criticizing them as being “greedy (because they won’t give away their products for pennies)” or “in a clique (because they enjoy hanging out with other successful, positive-minded people)” are the same people who say they are striving to be successful. It really isn’t possible to work that way. You can’t bad-mouth and resent the people you are trying to become one of. Your mind just can’t hold that thought – and you will never get there.
Thanks for continuing to share deep thoughts and great ideas, Jason! Good seeing you last weekend at the Dallas event.
Jeanette
Hey Jason,
Good things to focus on….
Certainly a timely reminder for me to take charge and to change my thinking habits. It’s all too easy to fall into negative thought processes….especially when you listen to what’s happening the world over…
Thanks for the post…
Regards
Greg
Jason – Great Concept.
Sometimes for me – a “dollar in the eye real estate broker shark” -
The best moment of the day is not closing a deal – but silently looking on the green woodpecker in front of my window in our neighbours garden.
One another gem in this direction:
When you get hurt, shit happens or one another normal catastrophy happens
I do 4 things
1. Ask “how did i get into# – what did i do wrong – what will i do different next time
2. Ask “what can i do now (to get out immidiately)
3. Ask “if god would have sent me this as a lesson what would be the message”
4. And this is the most crazy one of all – what are the 50 advantages or good sides that this shit happened. and then you have to dig to find these 50 things.
if you dig deep enough – you will find
I am thankful that i do not have to ask me the question nr. 4 when someone I loved passed away.
for all other catastrophies its the method of the choice.

Fantastic – I am in the middle of putting together a Course on Joy – and what you have written is certainly `more than’ applicable….thank you for the inspiration!
Great post! I needed to read this, today. Thanks!
This reminds me of the value of self-analysis. The more we get to know who we are and our values, the better we can get to know others and their values. I agree with Jim Rohn (I have been to his seminars.) On my website I try to get people to feel better by looking better; then you will be better. Larry
I agree 100% with what you say about mental images. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that the images we hold in our minds are responsible for most of what we experience. Most successful people know this, and most unsuccessful people don’t. Therefore I don’t think that anything much good comes from hating what you do, since that’s just focusing on the negative… but if that’s what you need to motivate you, so be it!
Jason you always hit the nail on the head. I need to be more thankful and change my metaphors.
I’ve often heard about being more positive, but never applied it metaphorically.
Keep up the good work!
Excellent stuff, Jason.
The ‘power of words’ metaphor example is pervasive.
Another method I use is to keep my own success stories handy. Just yesterday, after writing a client proposal that went together really well and had exactly the message I wanted to say, I went to sleep thinking how that one captured the best ‘me’ I’d seen in a while.
So… guess what was the first thing I read this morning, to start the day off right?
Thanks for the inspiration you provide here!
Best,
Anthony
