Do You Want It Bad Enough?

Roughly 3 years ago I lived with my dad. I had lived with him since
I dropped out of college (the first time) which was in April of
2002.
It was a VERY small apartment.
I didn’t pay rent, my dad took care of it. But that also meant he
took care of the utilities. In the summer on the second floor
in Iowa, with the temperature at 98 degrees, and the humidity
at 120% (how does that even happen?), it gets really, really
hot.
My dad refused to ever let the air-conditioner run. EVER.
I think about that now as I sit here in my home office.
My home office has a walk in closet. It has a bathroom
attached that is pretty impressively tiled. It has
TWO sinks in it. It has a remote control for the lights
and the fan. My desk is huge and wouldn’t even fit into
my room in the apartment I lived in with my dad.
And the central air is on. I’m loving every second of it.
When I had my home built, we made it 5 star energy efficient
and even though it’s a big house (4 bedrooms, 3 baths)
it costs almost nothing to cool it. And it’s so quiet
you can’t hear it.
I tell you this for one reason – it’s amazing how far you
can come in three short years.
I spoke at Dennis Becker’s seminar last week. The hotel room
I stayed in was bigger than the first apartment I moved into
after I moved out of my dad’s apartment.
At that seminar, Tim Castleman – who I did a promotion with…
PAID me in front of everyone… my commission.
$4800 – in one dollar bills. Nice touch. If Tim sends me the photo I’ll
add it to this post.
It was incredible to see that many one dollar bills. All for
less than 2 hours of work. It amazes even me how quickly
someone can attract wealth with a little bit of sweat
equity, a little bit of building, and a whole lot of focus.
It’s amazing how far you can come in three short years.
I write this to you now as I expect my daughter, Laney
Elizabeth Fladlien, to be born at the end of June… the 29th
is what the hospital told us. We’ll see.
Three years from now I’ll have a daughter who’s just turning
three. I wonder where I’ll be at… where she’ll be at…
where our family will be at… in three short years.
Where will you be at?
It’s something to think about. It’s something to have a clear
vision on. I have mine. We’ll see if it comes to be.
But what about you? We do high end coaching programs, and the
first thing we do is make our students do is write out their goal
of what they want to get out of the training.
The sad thing is, most students FORGET their goal as soon
as they write it down.
They don’t think about it every day first thing when they
wake up in the morning. Or LAST thing before they go to
bed.
Or several times over and over again throughout the day.
If they did, their behavior would change to automatically
attract them toward that goal. Really.
I remember when I first moved out of my dad’s apartment and
into this little 350 square foot apartment where my office,
bedroom AND living room was all ONE room.
It WAS a step up. I had just started writing articles for
marketers and was making some good money at the time, for
the first time ever in my life.
But I knew that was just a transition that would help me
get closer to my vision.
Everyday between 2, 4 or even 6 hour non-stop marathon writing
sessions, I’d need a break. I’d often grab my running shoes
and go out for a jog.
Each time I would run by this new house for sale. It was
brand new, a very nice home and pretty “expensive”. I’d say
to myself every time I ran past it “I’m going to own a home
just like this in less than 2 years”.
Now, I had no business saying that. It was not rational.
It was not reasonable. But one of the ways to get dramatic
growth in your business is to have UNREASONABLE expectations.
I write world class sales letters in 1 hour or less because
I am UNREASONABLE about how long it should take.
I create membership sites in 6 minutes or less because I
am UNREASONABLE about how long it should take.
And because of that vision, I find a way to MAKE IT WORK.
I didn’t buy that house I ran by every day within two years.
I bought a BETTER one.
So very few people in this game want it bad enough. It’s there.
You can have it. But you have to want it bad enough. Bad
enough to learn how to discipline yourself to WRITE for hours
on end… if that’s a skill required.
Bad enough to write a sales letter EVERY SINGLE DAY… if
that’s a skill required.
Bad enough to contact complete strangers who are experts, and
ask them for an interview… and then contact them again later
and ask them for a promotion… if you want to succeed.
That takes guts. It’s scary. But it’s less scary than letting 3 years go
by… and being in the same position you are in today. Or being
in a worse position.
I want to know something from you – do you want it bad enough?
I bet most of you reading this don’t. If you did, you’d wake
up in the middle of the night compelled to take action. If you
did, you’d sacrifice your favorite television program to work
an extra half hour.
If you did you’d do the things you know you need to do that
currently you are AFRAID to do to get what you want.
3 years from now can we sit down at a table and exchange stories?
And wow each other with the wonderful journeys we’ve been on,
experiences we’ve had, growth we’ve achieved, goals we’ve
reached?
I sure hope so. I’ll be sitting at that table. I hope you will
pull up a chair and join me.

Jason,
As usual great stuff. I am going to up my goals, because I feel I am not excited enough, as I should be.
Thanks for the motivtion.

Hi,
Let me begin by telling you that kids are the best gift God ever gave parents. I know I love mine and guess what my son is 28 and
my daughter 23 and they are my friends cause I work at it.
Guess what, age is a matter of numbers for at 50 plus I want to make it as an internet/affiliate marketer. You might life to read the poem I wrote on that. Its on the above blog. I have 5 of them which I began about 5 years ago as a pasttime. I have been following your mails. I believe in the law of attraction and so I believe that when you look for good you find good. My in box is full from every affiliate marketer and I do read most of their mail,….but not all. I am trying to learn but it is confusing at best.
Anyways to get to what I wanted to say….is that I found yr idea of marketing plr products through amazon rather a good one and maybe I will look into it.
I am self-publishing my first book with Amazon titled MasterMind
and it should be available about the time yr daughter will be born or sooner maybe. Do read it and let me know what you think of it.
So amazing story but where is truth?I listen so much lies as big money coming to yard and someone can play ragby with fat dollars but in real life that is not so simple.
Ok I see that I neeeed waterproof evidence from your dad .
Hi Jason, thank you for your encouragement, it´s good to know that by sticking to it, that things start to work, paticularly as evryone around you is telling you that you are wasting your time. I spend 8-10 hours a day working, and not really seeing anythink for my work, but recently I was awarded Expert Author status, by Ezine Articals, and you would be amazed at how much this has encouraged me.
Thank you for yoour good work, and I let you know that I read all your emails.
Wolfie (Wolfgang)
One observation is the email time markers everyone has on their submission. Mine should read 4am or so eastern daylight time. I hit the sack at 11pm and up at 3 am to work on this part of my life. You Jason, were the first to inspire me with the substance you present. Thanks for that. Too bad there are not more like you. Wanting it bad enough has to include a marketable commodity which I am still struggling to find. There is to much info…one thing I can say is I am more knowledgeable now than before, but something you said haunts me because it is so on target. It speaks to the reasons for not knowing too much and doing everything for yourself, because I don’t have the money to fund everything needed. The more you learn the less you earn. Sad but true. Thanks for the chin up chest out post. Nice to read.
I was thinking the same thing as I was driving home from work. How hard people work to get the success they want and the goals they put in front of them that they work to achieve.
Hi Jason, Yes I want it bad enough. I am currently making money online, for the first time ever. It feels great! I am looking forward to joining you at that table. I will be there with bells on.
Hi Jason, you never disappoint, you are inspirational. I too have a fabulous house in mind, it is my screensaver and is just waiting for me.
Dandavats Sadhu,
Once again wise words.
I am getting to the point of frustration with my progress. I have my goals and I know I am going to achieve them, but I think I have taken things too lightly. I think I will put a social welfare application form by my desk to make me feel why I must take action now. Of course my dream board will be prominently placed above also.
Some times things need to hurt before you take them seriously.
Great article!… But it can work a bit different when you’re passing through mid-life and already have everything you ever thought you wanted… Then, what do you want bad enough?… I’m still working on that one!
I would like to know if you mentor anyony online.
I like the way you explain everything .
Hi Jason,
I am receiving your mail lately and I would like to know what program would be the best in order to start. I am total novice.
Note: I have 2 babies-that means not much time for philosophy. I can put two hours a day (4-6 am) in development of my online business. Please your suggestion

Jason, this is the real “Secret”. Strong intent, followed up by the action to support it. All the time knowing that with determination and persistence you will reach your target. Thank you so much for being an outstanding example.
My writing team writes promos, autoresponders, ebooks, reports, etc., and it seems some of your people may need that. I also have a question: When you don’t have enough help or enough hours in the day, how should one schedule their time to accomplish the most work and yet have a little relaxation? (Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your baby girl! Bet your mom is elated. Awesome!)

Jason, I told you brother, “You are the real deal…” You have inspired me and continue too. Thank you for your transparency, directness, and GREAT sense of humor. When I grow up, I want to be just like you…
I’ll make you proud buddy, LOL.
Jason,
Thanks for sharing a very valuable insight from your own life.
I’ve been through similar experiences and many times my friends & family thought I was nuts (well, I am to a certain extent, in a good way I hope!) when I would do stuff like you mentioned — looking at nice houses, top of the line recording equipment, etc to keep me inspired & motivated to keep pursuing my dreams.
I recently did a video for my new blog where I showed the insane working conditions in my house but how I didn’t let those circumstances stop me because I want it bad enough to put up with stuff that would stop most people.
Thanks for discussing a topic that doesn’t get mentioned often enough!
Keep up the great work~

After reading such a fiery post, I just had to comment. Really, the appellation “sadhu,” the one who cuts through the veils of ignorance, does apply to you. I thoroughly enjoyed this post! It kind of leaves you feeling the way you do after watching a Sly Stallone Rocky movie. Yeah, long live the gleam of the eye of the tiger.
Very well said, Jason, as always. I like to quote “if you keep on doing what you’ve always been doing, you’ll keep on getting what you’ve always been getting”. So if you don’t like your current situation, do something different!
Congratulations on all your success and continued success. I like what you said about having unreasonable expectations. It reminds me of a quote I heard
“Being reasonable is the road most traveled to mediocrity”
Will Smith
Again congratulations, and yes I will be at the table with you exchanging our “WOW” stories!
Congrats, Working smarter not harder has definately paid off for you and anyone who wants it can have the same.
I am willing to sacrifice lots of useless things like TV to see the success that you have achieved.
Excellent post Jason. I have purchased some items from you this year and that is when I started to realize that you were a very cool guy and you are constantly teaching really great stuff.
This post is getting printed out and placed where I can read it often. I committed to some major goals in 2010 and with action I have taken and am taking I will be with you at the table!
All the best,
Glen
Moving. Challenging. As I was reading this post, I reached down under my desk and pulled out my written goal and put it in my shirt pocket. I will read it when I rise up and just before I go to sleep at night and several times in between. Thank you for the challenge, Jason.
Ho Man you you called me out!
I have been fiddling with IM for years now my Australian Home Loans blog has got me a few followers, but my fears of stuffing up my website seem to hole me back. I have tried to outsource, but I just get no care twats who do the opposite to what I ask. I think like most non-computer heads the tech stuff gets in the way. Even the simple stuff. (Not enough repetition to ingrain what to do)
You have identified the major difference between major success and ability. It is amazing how many people reach the top, not because they have a PhD, but because they have the drive and let nothing stand in their way. Thanks!
Hi Jason,
Could you write that letter every week? It is so motivational, I’m excited! And I want to be excited this time next week, too. And the week after. And the week after …
Hi Jason
It’s great to know you are so focused and action oriented. It reminds us all to tune out the background noise. It’s so easy to get distracted by all the things on the Internet, posting Facebook, Twitter, reading email…and on and on. It’s better to do even one thing a day that will produce positive results and move us towards our goals and save the other “stuff” for afterward. Now you have “extra motivation” yourself and you just may have a different kind of background noise yourself. LOL! All the very best to you and your family! Cheers!
Only 3 years ?
I’ll be 57 this year and have been floundering around the internet on and off since about 1995 and seen a lot of changes in that time but I have never given up hope on my internet dream.
Just doing a bit more and then a bit more and forever chasing the next shiny thing and new product launch !
I now have so much knowledge stacked into my brain it’s almost full to bursting but lately in the last few months I feel like this year is going to be my time for success online.
I don’t yet know exactly how or what or when but I just ‘feel’ inside that soon is going to be my time.
I also feel so calm and relaxed as if it’s already assured and is a ‘done deal’ and somehow I know it will be if I just keep on keeping on ?
I know more than ever that I have all the pieces I need to complete my internet jigsaw and I know where each one should go but with that I now have SO much choice that picking the best starting point has been unclear until the last few months.
So let’s reconvene June 23 2013 and see where I am on the internet ‘who’s who’ list by then and see if my internet success burned brightly enough to get noticed ?
All the best and good luck in whatever you do.
Jason, I am saving to buy your mst2.0 product soon as I can. I really liked what you say about “where will you be in 3 years time” I think it is really vital to have a plan and prepare to implement it. And even then I think it is really important to keep on every day thinking ahead – 3 years say. Where do I want to be in my career and accomodation 3 years from now? Keep on, every time you walk or jog or swim or cycle, keep on creating the vision and then take the active steps needed to bring about that vision. I often feel I haven’t explored my artistic talent – should I do a college course in art during the next 3 years? That is something I am seriously considering. I keep the vision before me, what do I want to be doing in 3 years time? Will I pay the price, take the action? When I want it bad enough yes I will! I have to needle myself to get to the point where yes I want it bad enough!
Hi Jason
Great post, no really!
I would very much like to replicate your success and I particularly like the way you work and the way you impart information.
Best wishes to you and for the future to your new family
Mike
Jason, you are earning a lot more money from me, that’s for certain. But take it from a pilot who has studied meteorology:
Relative humidity tops out at 100%! It CANNOT go higher than that. That is the point at which the air becomes saturated with water, and you start to see mist forming.
Technically, the temperature of the air is the same as the dewpoint.
I know this was the main point of your article, so I wanted to make ABSOLUTELY SURE I drove the point home.
Thank you, Jason, for writing such a motivational article. I discovered you via James Jones and so glad I did. You give a new perspective and new insights to Internet marketing.
I wish you all the best as you prepare to welcome your baby girl.
Nickolove
I am very interested in your digital product build a list, $ 97, but I am a newbie on the online internet bussines, and I don`t have experience. Can I follow and understand your instructions to start and obtain good results? I promise to learn and follow your course if I have your help. Thank you for your opinion.
Jason,
You are a true source of inspiration. Attending you membershipwhiz class taught me so many things. Unfortunately, self – doubt and a lack of confindence (well, I guess that’s the same..) made me fail in transforming my knowledge into taking action. It’s not the work I fear, it’s the uncertainty.
Anyway, congratulations to another inspiring blog post.
Best wishes to you and your family.
Dieter
Hi Jason
I guess the best advice I ever received was at a seminar where Mike Filsaime was one of the speakers. And he said it was the best advice he’d ever received too! Stay focused! Yes… that simple. Until then I’d been doing a bit of this and that, and then taking up the next “big thing” or the next big “money maker in 30 days or less!”
Decide on your niche, the subject you want to become a recognized expert at, and concentrate totally on that until it works for you.
Mike told us that, getting going online is just like trying to get a huge snowball to move. You push and push… and push some more and then, it starts to move. Slowly at first, but if you keep pushing, the momentum gathers.
You don’t go off to a different snowball and give that a shove!
Concentrate! Focus!
I’ll be joining you at that table three years from now. Looking forward to exchanging stories.
Good luck with all your endeavors.
WOW! Not sure what else to say, but that was a very powerful post! I have to say Jason, that really hit a nerve with me. I didn’t get this until recently…the urge, the need, no holds barred feeling to take it all the way.
Maybe it was lack of motivation, or focus, or maybe just hadn’t found my true passion until now. But hell yeah, I want it bad enough! I’ve given up practically ALL of my TV time (this was a big escape for me) and I constantly wake up too early just beaming of ideas for my business…crazy!!
So I truly hope to be sitting with you, having that cup of coffee in the near future and exchanging some success stories, because in the end we all deserve it, don’t we?
Thanks so much for sharing this!
Hey man!
Just a note to congratulate you and tell you how proud I am to be your student/client/friend.
Congratulations about your daughter! May fatherhood bring you joys that dwarf the ones you have as a marketer.
Keep on rocking in the free world,
Martin
J, I can so relate to your story. I am in that mindset now. I’m looking a head and plotting out 2 year goals and plan on hitting them and surpassing them. I hope to meet one day and sit down and swap stories; us mid westerners have to stick together….lol. Hope you and yours have a great Memorial Day weekend.
Jason,
You’re a real stand-up guy and I admire your work ethic. I wish I was like you when I was 27-ish. Currently, life is wonderful. A very nice income and my IM business is starting to kick off nicely.
Love your products and I use them often. (I am going through your copywriting course again.)
I hope that, soon, we can meet and talk about the good times. Thanks.
Bryan
Hi Jason,
It’s amazing what you have been able to achieve in 3 years!!! I do want it bad enough, but it’s been a year and 3 months and I have to admit, several times I put my Internet Marketing goals on the back burner. With little time and a tight budget it’s very challenging. Thanks for the inspiration, I KNOW I will find the way soon.
Hey Jason,
I have seen your name about and listened to you a couple of times recently and I am really really impressed ….. honestly you feel so genuine and i adore youre writing style.
You know what? You are bang on right with this post, it is so true about people not trying hard enough. If you want something bad enough you will move mountains. Sadly most people give up at their first fall and move onto something else new.
I use yourself and Jit Uppal as real inspiration like you two i am a family man and work desperatley hard trying to figure this whole making money online thing out and slowy it is al falling into place.
Gee’s 6 months ago I couldn’t even send an email….HONEST! I have enrolled on a coaching course which is really good( Alex Jeffreys) do you know him? Which is really good but copyrighting is a skill that I very much need to learn and as I said early I really enjoy you’re style, what advice can you offer to a total newbie who doesn’t knoe the first thing about copy BUT understand how important it is ?
Sadly at the momment money is a little sparse but I am working hard to get some infront . Are you running any courses in the near future?
In the meantime can you suggest a program/formula to work too to teach myself the basics? How did you get your style? There is so much out there and I don’t want to give myself another helping of that bloody information overload…. CRIPES that takes some getting rid of when you get a dose of it!
Anyway Jason please keep up with the good inspirational work and as always look forward to recieving your most recent blog posts!
Take care my good man and hopefully we’ll catch up later?
Best wishes
Darren Todd (Scarborough UK)
———surprise———–
Holy COW…you are goig to be a father.
———end of surprise——
You have a big pair there.
Nice read.
Awesome post! Very inspiring. I am often “scared” that what I am about to do will fail, but, what keeps me going and doing it anyways is the fact that the only way to know whether it will flop or succeed is to just DO IT!!! Great post Jason, keep ‘em coming.
Jason – this bought a tear to my eye – very well written and motivational. I’ve been working hard to get my first website up – just starting the promotion. You’ve inspired me to ‘step-up’ even further. Thanks for great post. Julie
I want to thank you for writing this. It is very true what you have said. We all need to have a goal and keep that goal in our minds. Post it on your monitor, plaster it on your bathroom mirror, stick it on your fridge. Wherever. Just keep it visible!
Nothing worth having comes easy. If you truly want something bad enough, you must be willing to go get it. You must believe that you are worth it. If you do not, you will more than likely not be sitting at that table ready to share your story.
There are so many things pushed in your face regarding strategies and ways to make money online. You need to find a way to make a living doing what you like to do and have the greatest skills at doing.
thanks again for the motivation and the kick in the butt for a reminder. I am going to go dig out my GOALS list for 2010 and post it on my monitor!
See you at the table in 3 years!
Right on J-Flad!
Love the story. About 3 months into IM and still getting the basics down. Great to see how far you’ve come in such a short amount of time.
Hope I have a similar story to share in those 3 yrs.
Congratulations on being a Dad soon! Hope everything goes well on the big day!
Jeff “DR Fitness” Lane
wow! tHIS IS AWESOME!
Jason,
I wany it bad enough. I wanted my Taekwondo black belt badly enough to get it in 2 years and 9 months. I also want a life in total and absolute time and money freedom. I’ll join you at that table in 3 years.

The sad thing is, most students FORGET their goal as soon

They don’t think about it every day first thing when they

Or several times over and over again throughout the day.
If they did, their behavior would change to automatically
attract them toward that goal. Really.

Uh, so … did you … remind them ?
Just a reminder — it’s a lot easier to make changes when you’re young, when you have fewer commitments, fewer obligations.
That’s not an excuse — it’s a FACT.
So — before you get too big for your britches … yes, absolutely, setting goals is totally important.
But also remember — that freedom to make changes comes at a price … at a price of, as Janis Joplin sang — “having nothing left to lose.”
Focus is a lot easier if you have just one thing to think about: yourself. But if you have mouths to feed, health insurance to buy, housework to do, yards to take care of, children and spouses who demand attention, obligations made that, to be honorable — you must keep — it all adds up.
Which is not, in any way, to say that setting goals shouldn’t be done … absolutely, goals are paramount.
But getting there may not be as easy for others as it was for you.
That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be attempted, nor that it can’t be achieved.
Thanks for listening.
Hey Jason great post! I was hoping Tim was going to start throwing the money around the room! Your presentation at the seminar really got me going. I already contacted a few people for interviews.
Thanks
Kevin
Jason–great post! And congratulations at how far you’ve come. Here’s my question…with everything that’s out there, how did you decide which way to go? That’s my problem. So many things I can do, and so many things I’d LIKE to do. So I end up getting nowhere.
