What a difference ten weeks, some dedication and good instruction
make. Yep, the fat body on the left was me ten weeks back when I
started my new training program.

This made me think about Internet marketing. So many people want
immediate results. It made me think – what is immediate? To me, ten
weeks was pretty immediate for my transformation in fitness.

And it was only 45 minutes a day, six days a week of training. And
THAT motivated me to eat better. So if you start doing one thing right
in marketing, that will motivate you to do other things right. Example
- if you have a good product already done, you’re much more likely to
go after getting traffic with some tenacity.

The second thing is how easy it is to “lose” what you have. A year and
a half ago I was in excellent shape. Then I let it slip. I see the
same thing happening in marketing. People will get some good results,
and then get lazy… and pretty soon they have nothing. They might’ve
been on the path to writing 3 articles a day… and did it for 30
days. Then they gave up… when if they would’ve kept at it for the whole
year…

Who knows what results they would’ve achieved?

The other thing is consistency. I’m doing a copywriting class right
now, and the main theme I tell them over and over again – just write
sales letters. Lots of them. 2-3 a week at least. Do that, and follow
the SYSTEM I show you and you’ll be a damn good copywriter.

And that’s the next point – SYSTEM. With the fitness program I did, we
did certain things at certain times on certain days. It was a routine.
You need a marketing routine. Here’s mine – 3 hours a day.

3 hours a day means that there are 3 uninterrupted hours I spend
working on what I think is MOST important in my business at the time
that I should do it that day. Then the rest of the work day can be spent
on “secondary” tasks that also need to be finished.

What’s your routine?

When it comes to consuming information and training, here’s another
routine. Never spend more time studying than doing. If I bought a
course on membership sites… for every 1 hour I spent studying the
materials I’d immediately follow up with 1 hour of action.

For those who have attended some of my 3 hour “webinar marathon”
sessions, that’d mean AT LEAST 3 hours of action to follow up with it.

Routine. Consistency. Re-evaluation of “immediate”. Habituation. Those
four things can make all the difference.

I spoke at Jeff Mill’s event this weekend (Jeff Mill’s puts on an
EXCELLENT good event… I was grateful to be a part of it!) and a few
people came up to me and said “Jason, I NEED to make this work…”

I’d say: “stop right there. Don’t say another word. Don’t say need…
Say: What can I do to make this work?” Here’s why that’s important.
Need will force you to NEED instant results. NEED will force you to be
inconsistent as you ping-pong from one thing to another, getting more
desperate by the day.

NEED is the enemy of routine because the noise in your head created
from the NEED is too distracting. NEED is the wrong approach.

I wanted to get more healthy because I knew it’d make me feel better.
Live longer. Get more done. Give me a greater sense of self worth. And
so on.

So I made it a priority to make it happen. Because I knew I could do
it once I put my mind to it. And the same is true with your online
success. You can do it once you put your mind to it.

The questions are simple: “What can I do to provide FAR more value
than whatever I’m compensated for that value?”
“What must I do day in and day out to move toward providing that value?”
“What routines am I currently following that are preventing me from
providing that value, and what routines must I replace them with to
make providing that value possible?”

Then do it. And the results will actually be more “immediate” than
they ever have been before for you.

  1. Congratulations Jason on your health success!

I like the comparison with internet marketing. I have learned so much from you and others.

    Peaceful ventures!

    Yvonne

  2. Jane says:

Such wisdom from one so young …

Can’t argue with any of that – wtg!

Need = desperation. People feel it and run away.

  3. Jason, make sure you do a lot of walking.
Any program must have lots of walking. Keep it up soldier.

  4. Well done, Jason!

Not only a great post and personal achievement, but also one of the best re-creations of a scene from Dexter I’ve seen this year ;)

Love the thought and content of your post. Here’s to mentally kicking out ‘excusitis’, taking full responsibility for what we get out of life, and creating a real hunger for the results we want to achieve (though that last one’s obviously a bit awkward in relation to weight loss…)

[scurries off to accidentally kill himself with a kettlebell]

  5. Drew says:

Great post Jason. The ‘need’ topic really struck a cord with me.

  6. Sean says:

    Hey Jason,

Great Jay Cutler impression. Good to know you are cutting back on eating vegetarians. Must’ve decimated the alternative community where you live. :-o

BTW I see your girlfriend STILL hasn’t found the key to those kinky handcuffs. Bet you’re regretting buying those now, eh? ;-)

Hey Jason, do me a favour and drop me the number of your interior designer — I just LURVE what you’ve done with those sheets! Lol!

Ahem! Sorry to give you a hard time, buddy, you are my ultimate IM rock god even if you are temporarily a tad physically abundant and I know you’ll be shredded in no time.

Thank you for all the stellar products you keep putting out, just bursting with all your energy, intelligence and fun… my wife and I are loving them.

    Be well,
    S

  7. Jason I can do lean and mean and welldone to you! Your article is great and I have always myself as a positive person but how do you deal with those non-believers and thsoe who lead with ‘need’ ? Do you teach them or simply avoid altogether? I tell you I am now running out hiding spaces!

  8. Jason,

Great effort, so far. I hope it’s a life long “balance” that keeps you in shape. You received a ton of support notes and that shows you how much people care about you and your health. Keep up on the daily progress….”If that’s what you want”. Clayman

  9. Norman Macey says:

Well done Jason, but you’ve got a bit to do yet.

Looking to make a better impression myself after ten weeks on your copywriting course.

    Norman

  10. Allen says:

Hey Jason … congratulations and cool post. Not too long ago I read about Madonna’s personal trainer. She was obviously trying to punt her own program but said some really wise words – “Do one hours exercise – 30 mins CV and 30 mins weight – every day for the rest of your life …”

Like you say … having a system and doing it daily. Never really thought to apply it to my marketing!

Thanks & keep up the good work (fitness and IM)!

  11. kay says:

Good for you! Once you get started its easier to continue its getting started thats the hard part. Now you see the benefits you’ll be on a roll!

  12. Haribol Prabhu,
Looks like not enough kirtan and too much halava =>:-)

Seriously, well done on your fat loss and excellent analogies to internet marketing. There are many things you mentioned that I need to put into place.

Thank you. You are an inspiration to me.

    Ys,
    Krsnendu dasa

  13. Awesome pictures amigo,

By the way I want to see the future ones, when you’ll be so scrawny and thin that you’ll be able to outrun 80% of the population (yes I’m exaggerating.)

Great question by the way. Reminds me of Rohn when he said something like “Are you reading the book which will help change your life in the next 10 years.”

Another question we ask ourselves is
“If I was to do this activity everyday/week, what would I look like in 10 years?”

All of that to say, congrats, and go on to become the most muscular IM marketer.

  14. Claudia says:

Well done! Even little changes (eating a bit less, moving a bit more) can go a long way if you do them consistently. Good thing is that after a while you have formed new habits and are going on autopilot :-)

  15. Nithiyaah says:

    Hi Jason,
What a transformation within 10 weeks. Keep up the good work. Don’t forget to post pics of you when you become totally ripped off and of course your article is really inspiring for us. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care..

  16. Wendy says:

Be sure to post pics of you when you become totally ripped. That’ll be REALLY inspiring then! =-)

  17. Vic says:

    Jason,

    Fantastic post.

I had bought your 3 hour ad and loved it. I’m still holding on to the promised 30min call with you. :-)

I’m debating about getting your goldmember product and still have not decided.

  18. Jason,

Excellent post. The advice about spending an hour doing for every hour studying is priceless. Equal importance should be put on our use of words. Constant intentional actions will bring us to our goals. Thanks for the valuable content. Take care. Patrick

  19. John says:

Its surprising what a change of clothing and how a different colored light can change the looks of a person.

Now leave McDonald’s out of the equation and things should start dropping off you like a brick.

Activity can be measured in so many ways and it transpires through out every aspect of life.

People want to blame the foods we eat and in some cases that is so true but exercise is the key.

The old saying is… “Use it, or Lose it”!

  20. Hi Jason,

Excellent post! Really agree with the use of “need” in people’s speaking & thinking. Words are the often overlooked keys to unlocking the full power of your brain.

After I get done revamping my website with some things I’m
currently learning from you, I’d like to do an interview with you about this very topic because I see you use words very carefully in your products to help make the information easier to learn & put to use quicker.

    Keep up the great work!

    Michael

  21. This has really got me looking at how I have been doing things. I see improvements already. Thanks for the info and encouragement.

  22. Michele says:

Hi Jason, you look great! Keep up the good work, and congratulations.

    Michele

  23. Trevor says:

    Hi Jason – well done.

I am also on the path to better health and fitness, and my before photo looks a lot worse than yours – so I will not be showing it to you.

But, like you, I have realized that if I can do it in health and fitness, then I can put the same principles to work in IM.

I like the way you have presented it, and, as usual, you blog entry is excellent and valuable to us all.

    Cheers, Trevor

  24. Well done Jason! Good for you! I’ve made a conscious decision to change my diet and get some exercise regularly too. I’ve been cutting down on coffee and actually without it I’ve had much more energy. Stick with it mate!
    Stuart Stirling

  25. Hey Jason: Great post,, I liked meeting you this weekend,, I really like your approach to things,, I was nice talking with you, on Sunday, hope all is well, If you want a program that doesn’t sacrifice the foods you love,, and still drive pounds off, visit my site: yayfood.com.

Thanks again for the insites.. and who, knows maybe with can JV sometime.

Ps. Again this was an awe inspiring weekend with lots of great content. Tks again for contributions. George sends best wishes!

  26. Good work, Jason! And what a great tie-in with IM!

I can just imagine a new product in the works — taking care of the physical self for Internet marketers! Most of us are spending way too much time sitting on our behinds in front of our computers, and that’s far from optimal…

A combo of your time management/personal development course, the hypno product (w Steve), and well, your fabulous new hypnotic copywriting tape, except that this would be a new version, hypnotizing us into getting the urge to exercise and take walks and so on. I’ll be checking my inbox ;-)

Once again, you’re a major motivation! Thanks!

    Elisabeth

  27. Jeff Bode says:

Hey Jason another excellent blog post!

Congrats on the weight loss… I used to be a personal trainer and when someone told me they wanted to loss a lot of weight (or more than 20 pounds)… I said no your goal is to lose 5 pounds – you can’t make a huge goal right off the bat, you got to start working on a small short term goal then move up from there

  28. Kevin Riley says:

Too true mate. My gym mantra has always been “Go heavy, or go home” No half-arsed workouts for me. No standing around talking. I put on my iPod (used to strap a Walkman to my arm in the pre-digital days) filled with badass music (lots of punk and heavy metal, anything that makes you want to bite the heads off rats), and get my gym face on (basically, talk to me and I’ll rip your lungs out – nobody comes near me in the gym). And the workout is commando style (fast and furious – in, do the job, get out).

My business is run the same. Go heavy, or go home. In this case, it’s do the work or go get a job.

  29. Rich says:

So you worked out and your shorts went blue :-)

    Great stuff and well done.

We all need to have a consistent focus on what we are trying to achieve, before we see results.
    Rich

  30. Dave Navarro says:

Reminds me of Ford’s famous quote: “Most people miss opportunity because it dresses in overalls and looks like work.”

Keep the routine going – it makes the difference!

  31. Todd Royer says:

    Hi Jason,

Glad to hear you’re working out — and just in a nick of time. If you let it go another month, I was gonna call you back to the mats and see if I could get the upper hand. You know that would make a hell of a copywritting story… and then, just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, some old man from the east started wrestling me! Hey dude congratulations… you saved me the trip to Iowa. Not that easterners have won much out there anytime recently. But we’ve got our plans.
Just tell you blog readers that there’s a small but ravid wrestling enthusiast crownd that also work at internet stuff.
I showed my son your 48 hour report and he is knocked out. Thanks!

    Todd

  32. Doic says:

Discipline and habits will always rule! Congrats for your achievement. Btw, if you wanna loose more weight, faster and without starving / suffering, that’s my job (After losing 33 pounds myself, I made my parents lose more than 45 pounds each one – and many other clients between 10 and 50 pounds). Exercise to stay healthy, not to lose weight; your way, you burn muscle & fat. My way you burn only fat.
But one more time… congrats for your changing, don’t stop till you get enough!!

  33. Roger Due says:

You are so right about a system and commitment. Last summer I finally got tired of being overweight from years of slowly gaining. I decided to reduce my eating and have breakfast and an evening meal. The hard part was in the middle of the afternoon when my stomach was growling. I finally realized that an apple did wonders for reducing the hunger. Within about 6 months I had lost 40lbs and have been able to keep it off. I can now wear my wedding suit again from three decades ago. I didn’t do anything special in the exercise department, although now I do some exercises at home to firm up my stomach muscles and legs.

    I always enjoy your emails.
    – Thanks for sharing

  34. Alicia says:

You are so right! I *need* to lose weight but I don’t *want* to do some of the hard work, make some of the tough choices so guess what? I’m still overweight. It certainly can be the same thing in business. And the balance thing – 1 for 1 between learning and doing – is also spot on.

  35. Amin says:

    Hey Jason

kudos for showing your before and after pictures. I use an old picture on my sites because I don’t really like the fact I’ve aged and gained a ton of weight – working from home and having easy access to all the food in the house, combined with sitting at a machine all day do not make for lean bodies!

I don’t even want to think about how big the numbers are on my scales right now…

You’re right about the immediate thing. For IM it’s no problem to me to put in the development work and watch results come quickly, but not instantly. It’s just the weight loss that I’m in denial about!

    Amin

  36. buen says:

consistent, focused action hits the target… =) and i totally agree with the idea that one should not be bogged down with too much theory: one should follow it up with action, action, action…

  37. Hi, Jason,

Pretty good, and good for you!

I’ve had some pretty good results myself, dropping 46 pounds and feeling better that I’ve felt in the last 10-15 years. At age 65, that’s surprised the poodle out of me.

    I just did this:
    (a) Changed to a completely vegan diet.
    (b) Very mild exercise 3X a day: One is walking the dogs a couple of blocks with some upper body tension exercises, Second is five minutes of slightly-muscular yoga, Third is 7-8 minutes with either weights or stretchy bands.
    (c) I listen to Jon Gabriel’s 20-minute tape every night.

This is the best results I’ve ever had with any regimen, including those far more restrictive on diet, and far more difficult on exercise. The stuff is just falling off.

OK, now, 40 pounds more to go.

    Your friend,

    Arthur Cronos

    .

  38. Jason,
I am so with you on this. Congratulations, for starters, for getting STARTED and then sticking with it!

I’m starting my fitness program in the morning! I really mean that.

And, yeah, forget need. Aspire is a better word, as it asks that question, “What can I do to make this work?”

I aspire to make enough money to attend your NEXT high-end coaching, my friend! Plus some!

Thanks for all you do – positively, from one former “monk” (though Buddhist) to another (albeit Hindu)! You are keeping with the path, and are inspiration for us to keep our values true also in this Internet Marketing world.

    Terry

  39. Karridine says:

Sounds GOOD! And facing near-immediate loss of internet connection I know the ‘noise in my head’ very well…

So I provide value, far in excess of what I deliver and ask FOR that value, and far in excess of what I’m PAID for that value!

    Karridine

  40. hey jason,

    great post man …

… i’ve just wrote a WHOLE massive section within my latest report “Gurus Nightmare” and the section i talk about is

called the “Guru’s Marathon” where talk about my view on the market the same way as my view on getting results outta the gym.

im trying to get back into the gym, but ive been in there 2 times since i started my pledge 3 weeks ago !!! WHAT !!!

now i’ve been on detox from drink for 50 days,

my pledge was 90 days with no drink – and for a guy at my age from the UK that is the worst torture you could give.

but i wanted to get focus as i wrote my latest report,.

and trying to get that focus in the gym is hard.

its one thing NOT doing something – like NOT drinking

but its a totally other thing actually DOING something – like hitting the gym,.

and i know i need support.

can you post what program you followed for 10 weeks.
    be interested to hear,

    again great post

    Alex Jeffreys

  41. Stubsy says:

Congratulations on your weightloss, seeing your results will spur you on

  42. Jason,

Excellent advice! Being needy will keep you chasing the next “shiny object”. Deciding to make it work with the right mind set will get it done. Just look at what you did with your weight loss…Congrats…

    Wayne

  43. Nick says:

    Hey Jason,

Congratulations on your Transformation. Keep up the great work. So many people might have the intention of starting an endeavor whether it is fitness oriented or business oriented but never do. There is is never a perfect time to start. As Nike said “Just Do It!”

Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help you continue your transformation or if you just need any support!

  44. Maddi says:

Ok so this is the first time I’m going to be disclosing this information[video] to anybody in the Internet Marketing world.

I did the same thing last year. For 16 consistent weeks and absolutely transformed my Body. Your post motivates me to start the challenge again. It was this time last year actually so perfect timing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxxa7FyulYI
This is 1 of the 3 videos I did to record the journey. I remember I was living in a shared accommodation and in the worst shape of my life.

And it really is the same motivation and game plan needed to make it work online like you have related the two in your post.

I would never have shown this video to anyone in the IM world but what you did in this post made me to. :-)

    Hope you enjoy the video.

To you never ending success and fitness

  45. Fred Raley says:

    Great point here Jason.

One other things that helps is to STOP multitasking. Studies are showing the multitaskers rarely if ever finish a project or task. They get the impression of progress. However, if you focus on one task to completion, walla; SUCCESS.

    Keep up the great training.

  46. Jen King says:

Nicely done, bird chest! Good for you.
This is a huge coincidence. I’ve been (trying) to write an article a day for a project about – wait for it – personal health and fitness.
I work full time and it’s been a struggle to get my writing done. I’m usually good for an article a week, but since I’ve been using the 7 minute method, I’ve managed to publish 4 in 5 days! I’m not at the 7 minute mark just yet, but I’m completely pumped up about writing now.
    woo hoooo

  47. Hey Jason,
Congrats on becoming a lean mean fighting machine, yes your health is no 1.

  48. I applaud you for taking action on your fitness /lifestyle changes! Do you have a personal trainer?

  49. Jan Tincher says:

    Hi Jason,
That is sooo true! Whenever a person “needs” something, they are putting that neediness out into the universe and, with the Law of Attraction, they are receiving back even more neediness. I totally agree, “What can I do to make this work?” is one of the best sentences you can program into your brain.

  50. Barry says:

You’ll never look back, Jason! Keep going. No one will ever say, “Dang, I miss your man boobs!”
